At Catbird Media we provide a complete service for independent authors - manuscript editing, book layout and design, ISBN, barcode and CiP, cover layout and design, printing, delivery and publicity - which is essential to get your book 'out there'.

Introduction

Catbird Media is a publisher for independent authors. We provide a compact, personalised service - from manuscript submission, through the editing process, to design, layout, printing and delivery. We also offer launch publicity for your book. Another service we offer is graphic design and website design. We do not offer stand-alone typesetting or production.

Initial Contact

Just call us or email so we can discuss your book with you. We will then send you our comprehensive 'Providing Solutions for Authors' form for you to fill in. If you wish to go ahead to the next stage, then you email us (or post on disc) your manuscript, with cover art or illustrations if you already have them, along with the filled in 'Solutions' form.

Estimated Quote

It can take around 7-10 working days to work out an estimate. We will return the estimate to you as soon as possible and then contact you for further discussion and suggestions regarding your publishing requirements. If you wish to proceed, we will send you an agreement form.

Production

We want to be sure the finished product is as good as it can be and all book files submitted will require editing. We therefore do not accept 'print-ready' files. During the editing stage you will deal directly with our editor. We will produce a cover for your book and liaise with you during this process to discuss the design with you. We will layout your book and liaise with you during this process to discuss font choices and other design elements. Following editing, design and layout, your file will be proofed for final correction. You will then receive an electronic copy of the proof by email for a final check before the file goes to the printer.

Delivery

Once approved, the books are then printed and delivered in cartons to the nominated locations. Catbird Media requests one carton of each title published which will be delivered direct from our printer. This is standard practice to enable us to send the books to legal deposits, reviewer, publicity purposes etc.

Publicity Services

We strongly recommend the all-important publicity. You will deal directly with our publicist who will assist you in all areas of marketing your book and suggest various options and recommendations on how to launch and continue to promote and sell your books.

Distribution

Catbird Media is not contracted to market books or promote them, other than by providing a book review (for www.catbirdmedia.com.au) by our professional reviewer, listing the books on our website and offering them to a library distributor. However, where appropriate, and under no obligation, we will offer the books to local retailers as well.

Online Book Sales Facility

We have a PayPal book sales facility on our website (www.catbirdmedia.com.au) and offer and recommend this to all our authors.

Payment for our Services

We accept payment by cheque, but prefer direct deposit via bank transfer.
